About Paperform:

Paperform is a Sydney based SaaS company that provides tools to help people and businesses easily create beautiful online forms (check out Our aim is to democratize digital creation. Paperform launched in late 2016, and now has thousands of customers from across the globe. We’re a small, agile team, and we’re growing fast!

Working for us:

We’re a remote team, and our HQ is in Sydney, Australia. To work for us you need a stable internet connection, a passion for getting stuff done, outstanding communication skills, and to be tech-savvy.

We have a few core values and expectations: empathy and kindness, that you be detail-oriented, autonomous, know the product inside-out and work creatively. We like to spend a minimal amount of time in meetings and execute tasks and strategies at a fast pace.

The role:

We are looking for a Senior Software Developer to join our tight-knit product team. Day to day you'll be working with Dean (Co-Founder/Head of Product) and Josh (Developer) across the full stack of our core product offering. You'll be building new features, refining existing product, and delivering high-quality code.

This role will require someone to be a technical leader whilst primarily remaining on the tools: we need someone who can nail this intersection. As a leader within the team, you will be involved in creating and refining best practices, including technical decisions & architecture, assisting with product development, and overall strategic technical decision making.

The stack:

We like to keep our stack simple where we can. Paperform's backend primarily consists of a Laravel (PHP 8) app at the core, however we also lean heavily on AWS Lambdas (primarily in JS/TS). Frontend is primarily React (JS/TS) / HTML / CSS.

What you need to bring:

  • Experience in modern PHP (7+), preferably Symphony/Laravel.
  • ES6, React, front end build tooling.
  • Experience building high-quality frontends.
  • Experience with modern build, techniques, architectures and practices. We use AWS, EC2, Lambda, Docker, Bitbucket Pipelines.
  • Deep knowledge in relational and NoSQL datastores, we use MySQL, Redis, MongoDB and AWS services like S3, etc.
  • Experience designing and building software.
  • Understanding of automated testing and related frameworks such as Jest, PHPUnit

It would be especially nice if:

  • You have experience managing production infrastructure (AWS, Docker, K8s, Linux)
  • Experience working in high functioning product teams
  • Exposure to modern DevOps practices - QA Automation, Monitoring, Infrastructure-as-Code
  • Exposure to automated deployments (CI/CD)

We believe in strong and fast execution, but people always come first!

  • Work how you like - Work from home, come into our CBD office, or both.
  • Work when you like - We expect you'll be at scheduled meetings, and available over a couple hours of the standard AEDT workday, but other than that, work when it suits you. If you're a morning bird, or a night owl (or need to pick the kids up from school), we're easy.
  • Work in a growing, young, open organisation - want to start your own business one day? See what it takes to scale a SaaS business from marketing to operations to product.
  • Work with the tools you need - we'll get you the tech and equipment you need to get the job done.
  • Work with genuinely fantastic people who value candour, kindness, discipline and arguing well.

You’re a good fit if you...

  • Communicate well online, and don’t like to be coddled.
  • Can’t sleep if you know there’s a better way of doing something, or a way to solve a problem.
  • Try everything in your power to solve an issue before assigning it to someone else.
  • Enjoy moving super fast on tasks and campaigns, and loathe death by meetings.
  • Take ownership of your work, and can manage projects and work to deadlines.
  • Have a high level of spoken English.
  • Have strong attention to detail and can spot a typo from a mile away.
  • Can work autonomously, and thrive when given responsibility.
