# Best Tally Alternatives for 2026

The best Tally alternative for most teams is [Paperform](/form-builders/), because Tally stops at the submit button while Paperform covers forms, eSignatures and workflow automation in one subscription at $49/month billed annually. If your work genuinely ends when the response arrives, stay on Tally. Its free plan is the most generous in the category.

Let us start with the honest part. If the job is a form, Tally does it beautifully. Unlimited forms and unlimited submissions on the free plan within a fair use policy, conditional logic, calculations, Stripe payments, e-signatures and a free AI builder that writes the whole form from a sentence. Pro is $24/month billed annually against Paperform's $49. It is made and hosted in the EU, it is bootstrapped, and around 500,000 teams use it. A reader whose work ends at "submit" should stop here and go use Tally.

The wall arrives at a specific point: when the work stops being a form and becomes a process. Several client brands to keep separate. A price calculated from quantities, add-ons, a discount code and regional tax rather than typed in. A contract that has to be signed and filed against the submission. An approval chain with a person at each step. A compliance checklist somebody else wrote and you have to pass. Tally's honest answer at that point is to hand the response to Zapier, Make or n8n and stop, which makes you the integration: the glue between the form, the signature tool, the automation tool, and the invoices for all three.

The compliance question tends to end the conversation before the rest of it starts. Tally holds GDPR and EU hosting, and nothing else: no SOC 2, no ISO 27001, no HIPAA, and no SSO or 2FA on any tier, including the $89/month Business plan at the top of its price list. Below we compare the strongest alternatives on the five dimensions that actually decide the purchase, and say plainly where Tally still wins.

*Tally's pitch is accurate: the simplest way to create forms, with no signup required to start. The limits sit past the form, not inside it.*

## The five dimensions that decide it

Tally wins one of these outright and loses three badly. Here is exactly where it lands against the alternatives on each.

Pricing

**Tally Pro is $24/month billed annually ($29 monthly) and Business is $74/month annually ($89 monthly), with unlimited submissions and unlimited team members on both.** That is the cheapest unmetered offer in this group. Fillout Starter is lower at $15/month annually but caps responses at 2,000 a month, Cognito Forms Pro is $19/month annually with 2,000 entries and 2 users, and Jotform Bronze is $34/month annually with 1,000 submissions. Paperform Pro is $59/month, or $49/month billed annually, with unlimited submissions and unlimited seats. Tally has no enterprise tier at all.

Integrations & API

**Tally lists 1,000+ integrations counting Zapier and Make, with 15 native connectors, a documented REST API at developers.tally.so, SHA256-signed webhooks and an MCP server.** The native list is genuinely well chosen for its audience: Notion, Airtable, Coda, Google Sheets, Slack, Discord, Linear, Attio, n8n and Pipedream, most of them on the free plan. Paperform counts 4,000+ integrations, Jotform 150+ natives, Typeform 120+, and Google Forms roughly 20 inside Workspace. Tally is not short of pipes; it is short of somewhere for the data to go and do work.

Conditional logic

**Tally includes conditional logic, calculations and a proper formula editor on the free plan, with multi-operation expressions, @-mention field references, text concatenation and real-time validation.** For a free tier that is unusually strong, and Tally AI will troubleshoot a broken rule for you. The limits are debugging and reach: Hackceleration's review flags large branching forms as hard to follow with no visual logic map, and there is no AI assistant for writing formulas. Paperform's Excel-style calculations drive question and page visibility, conditional emails, integration payloads and success pages rather than just producing a number.

Payments

**Tally supports exactly one payment processor, Stripe, with no PayPal, Square, Braintree or native Google Pay, and no coupons, tax rules, invoicing or refund management.** Jotform supports 40+ processors on every plan including free. Paperform supports 5 (Stripe, PayPal, Square, Braintree, Google Pay) with products, subscriptions, coupons, tax and refunds behind them and no transaction fee of its own. Cognito Forms adds PayPal and Square from its Team tier. Typeform, Google Forms and Fillout are Stripe-only or worse, so Tally is not an outlier here, only unhelpful once the price has to be worked out rather than typed in.

Compliance (HIPAA / GDPR / SOC 2)

**Tally is GDPR compliant and EU-hosted, and holds no SOC 2, no ISO 27001 and no HIPAA, with no SSO and no 2FA on any plan including the $89/month Business tier.** Jotform, Typeform, Google Forms and Cognito Forms are all HIPAA, GDPR and SOC 2 compliant. Paperform is SOC 2 Type II, GDPR and CCPA compliant with SAML SSO and enforced 2FA, but is not HIPAA compliant and signs no BAAs. Fillout is SOC 2 and GDPR without HIPAA. If protected health information is in scope, Tally and Paperform are both out, and the shortlist is Jotform, Cognito Forms or Typeform.

#1 Paperform — Best When the Form Is the Start of a Process

 ![Paperform homepage](/images/form-builders/paperform/screenshot-homepage.png)

*One subscription covers Paperform for forms, Papersign for eSignatures and Stepper for workflow automation, on every plan.*

Paperform costs more than Tally and buys a different category of thing. Where Tally ends at the submission and hands the rest to Zapier, one Paperform subscription covers forms, Papersign eSignatures and Stepper workflow automation on every plan, from one account and one dashboard. There is nothing to add on and nothing to buy separately. For a team currently paying Tally plus a signature tool plus an automation tool, the comparison is not $24 against $49; it is three renewal dates and a process living in a canvas nobody owns, against one.

The pricing model is the second argument, and it is the one Tally partly shares. Neither product meters seats, which is rarer than it should be. Paperform goes further: submissions are unlimited on paid plans within fair use, so a campaign that lands does not produce a bill, and support is built into the seat price rather than sold back as a five-figure enablement engagement at signing. On design, both editors are document-style and Tally's is pleasant; the distinction is free text against stacked blocks, with prose, images, GIFs and video placed where the page needs them, plus custom HTML and CSS. Run several client brands and that difference shows up weekly. Paperform has been bootstrapped and profitable since 2016, which matters when the form becomes a system of record.

 - **Strengths over Tally:** Papersign eSignatures and Stepper workflows in the same subscription, 5 payment gateways with coupons, tax and refunds, AI report insights on responses, AI-assisted Excel-style calculations, SOC 2 Type II with SSO and 2FA, Guided Mode, appointment booking and save-and-resume, 30,000+ professionally designed templates, 4,000+ integrations
 - **Limitations:** $49/month billed annually against Tally's $24, no HIPAA compliance and no BAAs, Stepper automation credits are metered (20,000/month on Pro), no mobile editor, a smaller review footprint than the market leaders
 - **Best for:** Operators whose forms trigger signatures, approvals and multi-step work, and who need a security questionnaire answered

## ![](/images/form-builders/fillout/logo.png)
#2 Fillout — Best Like-for-Like Swap at a Similar Price

 ![Fillout homepage](/images/form-builders/fillout/screenshot-homepage.png)

*Fillout targets the same modern, fast-builder audience as Tally, and adds SOC 2 that Tally does not have.*

Fillout is the alternative that feels most like Tally to use: a quick modern builder, 50+ question types, a chat-based AI agent in the editor and no per-seat charge. It closes one gap that Tally leaves wide open, because Fillout is SOC 2 compliant as well as GDPR, which is the difference between having something to say in a security review and having nothing. Starter is $15/month billed annually, below Tally Pro.

The trade is the meter. Tally's headline feature is that responses are not counted; Fillout counts them on every tier below $75/month, at 2,000 on Starter and 5,000 on Pro at $40/month annually, so a successful campaign turns into an upgrade conversation or a bulk submission pack. AI credits come from a shared pool and workflow runs are counted too, with the serious quotas parked in a $250/month Team bundle, and the lead-generation essentials sit in a separate $100/month Conversion Kit. Fillout was founded in 2022 and is seed-funded, so it is the youngest vendor here by some distance.

 - **Strengths over Tally:** SOC 2 compliance, scheduling and more advanced question types, AI agent that edits logic and calculations, 1,000 submissions on the free plan, lower entry price at $15/month annually
 - **Limitations:** Responses metered below the $75/month Business tier, Stripe-only payments like Tally, key lead-gen features sold as a $100/month add-on, no HIPAA, founded 2022 with seed funding
 - **Best for:** Teams who like Tally's speed but need SOC 2 on the record and can live inside a response quota

## ![](/images/form-builders/jotform/logo.png)
#3 Jotform — Best If You Left Tally Over Payments or HIPAA

 ![Jotform homepage](/images/form-builders/jotform/screenshot-homepage.png)

*Twenty years of accumulated breadth, including the payment processors and the BAA that Tally cannot offer.*

Two of Tally's hard limits disappear immediately in Jotform. Payments go from one processor to more than forty, available on every plan including the free one, and HIPAA compliance with a signed BAA arrives on the Gold tier at $99/month billed annually. Jotform also carries SOC 2, ISO 27001, PCI DSS Level 1, FERPA and StateRAMP, which is the opposite end of the compliance spectrum from Tally's single GDPR line. Founded in 2006 and still bootstrapped, it is the oldest product on this list.

What you give up is exactly what made Tally pleasant. Jotform's interface carries two decades of accumulated features and reviewers regularly describe it as cluttered, with settings buried in nested menus. More to the point for a Tally refugee, almost everything is metered: submissions, forms, form views, storage, fields per form and signed documents, and every self-serve tier from Starter to Gold is single-user. Coming from a product where volume and headcount are simply not billing levers, that is a jarring adjustment. Our [Jotform alternatives](/form-builders/jotform-alternatives/) breakdown goes into the quota structure in detail.

 - **Strengths over Tally:** 40+ payment processors on every plan, HIPAA with a BAA, SOC 2 and ISO 27001, 150+ native integrations, native mobile apps, approval workflows and PDF generation, 20 years of stability
 - **Limitations:** Submissions, forms, views and storage all metered, single-user on every self-serve tier, cluttered editor, $34/month annually for 1,000 submissions against Tally's unlimited free plan
 - **Best for:** Teams that hit Tally's Stripe-only wall or a healthcare compliance requirement and will accept quotas to clear it

## ![](/images/form-builders/cognito-forms/logo.png)
#4 Cognito Forms — Best for Heavy Calculations on a Small Budget

 ![Cognito Forms homepage](/images/form-builders/cognito-forms/screenshot-homepage.png)

*Utilitarian where Tally is elegant, with a deeper calculation engine and a HIPAA option behind it.*

Cognito Forms is the closest thing here to a deeper version of Tally's formula editor. Its calculation engine handles repeating sections, line-item order forms and nested logic that Tally's single formula field starts to strain against, and it is HIPAA compliant with a BAA as well as SOC 2 and GDPR. Pro is $19/month billed annually, below Tally Pro, and Cognito Pay adds native card processing with Apple Pay and Google Pay alongside direct Stripe, with PayPal and Square from the Team tier.

The cost is aesthetic and structural. Forms built in Cognito look like forms from 2013 unless someone writes CSS, which is a painful step down for anyone who chose Tally for the editor. It is also metered four separate ways: entries, users, storage and guest collaborators each have their own quota and their own overage line, so Pro stops at 2,000 entries and 2 users with extra people at $5 each per month. Tally's unlimited submissions and unlimited team members on Pro make that arithmetic look worse than the sticker price suggests. See our [Cognito Forms alternatives](/form-builders/cognito-forms-alternatives/) page for the full picture.

 - **Strengths over Tally:** Deeper calculation engine with repeating sections, HIPAA with a BAA, SOC 2, more payment options including Apple Pay and Google Pay, lower entry price at $19/month annually
 - **Limitations:** Dated, utilitarian design, no public REST API, metered on entries, users, storage and guests, slow product development compared to Tally's monthly changelog
 - **Best for:** Budget-conscious teams whose forms are really pricing calculators, especially in regulated work

## ![](/images/form-builders/typeform/logo.png)
#5 Typeform — Best for One-Question-at-a-Time Brand Experiences

 ![Typeform homepage](/images/form-builders/typeform/screenshot-homepage.png)

*The conversational format Tally deliberately does not offer, priced accordingly.*

Typeform is worth a look for one specific reason: Tally has no guided, one-question-at-a-time mode, and Typeform invented the format. For short lead qualification and feedback flows where presentation drives the completion rate, it remains the reference implementation, and it is HIPAA compliant on Business with ISO 27001, 27017, 27018 and ISO/IEC 42001 behind it. It is also the most reviewed product in this comparison by a wide margin.

Then there is the bill. Typeform meters responses and seats on every plan: 100 responses and 1 user on Basic at $28/month annually, 1,000 and 3 on Plus, 10,000 and 5 on Business at $91/month annually, and Growth Flow at $266/month annually raises neither. Moving from Tally's uncapped free plan to 100 responses a month for $28 is the single sharpest downgrade available on this page, and payments are Stripe-only just as they are in Tally. Typeform is a good product sold on a model that charges you for succeeding. Note also that Tally ships one-click Typeform import, so the migration runs in the other direction rather easily.

 - **Strengths over Tally:** Conversational one-question format, strongest default aesthetics for short forms, HIPAA on Business, ISO 27001 and ISO/IEC 42001, far larger review base
 - **Limitations:** Responses and seats capped on every plan, $28/month annually buys 100 responses, Stripe-only payments, advanced logic and calculations gated to Plus at $56/month annually
 - **Best for:** Marketing teams running short, high-value brand surveys where response volume is low and presentation is the point

## ![](/images/form-builders/google-forms/logo.png)
#6 Google Forms — Best If You Only Need a Spreadsheet

 ![Google Forms homepage](/images/form-builders/google-forms/screenshot-homepage.png)

*Unlimited, free and already in the account, at the cost of everything Tally does well.*

Google Forms is unlimited and free, HIPAA-eligible under a Workspace BAA, and covered by SOC 2, ISO 27001 and FedRAMP through Google Cloud. For an organisation already paying for Workspace, from $7 per user per month on Business Starter, it is a compliance answer that costs nothing extra and needs no procurement conversation.

It is otherwise a step down from Tally in every direction that matters. No payments of any kind, roughly 20 integrations confined to the Google ecosystem, no calculations worth the name, no custom domains, no branding control and a respondent experience that is unmistakably a Google Form. Tally exists largely because people wanted Google Forms' price with a design they would put in front of a customer. Choose it only if you were using Tally for internal surveys and never needed the rest. Our [Google Forms alternatives](/form-builders/google-forms-alternatives/) page covers the upgrade paths.

 - **Strengths over Tally:** Free and unlimited, HIPAA-eligible under a Workspace BAA, SOC 2 and ISO 27001 through Google Cloud, SSO and admin controls via Workspace, zero learning curve
 - **Limitations:** No payments, no meaningful calculations, no design control or custom domains, about 20 integrations, visibly generic respondent experience
 - **Best for:** Internal surveys inside a Workspace organisation where compliance matters and presentation does not

## Pricing Comparison

Tally is the cheapest way to get unmetered submissions with your branding removed, at $24/month billed annually. Read the table for what each step up in price actually buys rather than for the headline number alone.

## Review Ratings Across Platforms

Tally rates 4.8 on G2 across 97 reviews and 4.9 on Capterra across 41, with value for money at 4.9 and customer support its weakest sub-score at 4.5. Its Trustpilot average of 3.8 across 22 reviews is the outlier.

## Verdict: Which Tally Alternative Should You Choose?

Most people searching for a Tally alternative are not unhappy with Tally. They have arrived at a job it was never built to do, and the right answer depends on which job that is.

If the forms now trigger signatures, approvals and multi-step work, **Paperform** is the recommendation. One subscription covers forms, Papersign and Stepper, submissions and seats stay unlimited within fair use so growth is not a billing event, and SOC 2 Type II with SSO answers the questionnaire that ends most Tally evaluations. It is twice the price of Tally Pro and it replaces more than one product.

If the blocker is narrower, pick the tool that removes it. **Jotform** for payment processors beyond Stripe or a HIPAA BAA. **Cognito Forms** for serious calculation work on a small budget. **Fillout** for a familiar modern builder with SOC 2 attached. **Typeform** for the conversational format, if your response volumes are genuinely low. **Google Forms** if you have realised you only needed a spreadsheet.

And if none of that describes you, stay where you are. Tally at $24/month is the best-value form builder in the category for people whose work ends at the submit button, and there is no sense paying more for capability you will not use. The moment the form becomes the first step of a process rather than the whole of it, come back and start with Paperform's 7-day trial, which needs no card.

## Frequently Asked Questions

Why do people look for Tally alternatives when the free plan is unlimited?

Because the free plan is not usually what breaks. Tally gives you unlimited forms and unlimited submissions for free within its [fair use policy](https://tally.so/help/fair-use-policy), and for collecting responses that is a very good deal. The searches for alternatives come from the jobs that start after the response lands: a contract that has to be signed and filed, an approval with a person at each step, a payment with real pricing logic behind it, or a security questionnaire. Tally's answer to each of those is a link to Zapier, Make or n8n, which leaves you holding three subscriptions together. **Paperform** covers forms, Papersign eSignatures and Stepper workflow automation in one subscription at $49/month billed annually.

Can I take PayPal, Square or Braintree payments in Tally?

No. Tally supports Stripe and only Stripe, with no PayPal, Square, Braintree or native Google Pay, and no coupons, tax rules, invoicing or refund management around it. That is fine for one price and one button. It stops being fine when the amount is calculated from tiered quantities, add-ons, a discount code or tax by region. **Paperform** takes Stripe, PayPal, Square, Braintree and Google Pay with products, subscriptions, coupons, tax and refunds, and charges no transaction fee of its own. **Jotform** is the other answer here with 40+ processors including regional gateways, and **Cognito Forms** adds PayPal and Square from its Team tier at $39/month annually.

Does Tally have SOC 2 or SSO?

No to both, at any price. Tally is GDPR compliant and hosted in the EU, and it holds no SOC 2, no ISO 27001 and no HIPAA. There is no SSO and no 2FA on any tier, including the $89/month Business plan, which is the highest plan Tally sells. If a procurement team hands you a security questionnaire, there is nothing to put in most of the boxes and no way to enforce a login policy across a team. **Paperform** is SOC 2 Type II, GDPR and CCPA compliant with SAML SSO and enforced 2FA, though it is not HIPAA compliant and signs no BAAs. For protected health information the options on this page are **Jotform**, **Cognito Forms** or **Typeform**.

Is Tally AI enough, or do the alternatives do more with AI?

Tally AI is free on every plan including Free, and for building a form it does the job: describe what you want in a chat window and it builds, edits, brands, translates and fixes broken logic rules. The gap is in what happens afterwards. Tally's Insights tab is statistical only, and analysing responses with AI means leaving the product for Tally's MCP server, ChatGPT plugin or Claude connector. Calculations are also written by hand in the formula editor with no AI assistant. **Paperform** reads the responses in place with AI report insights, and its AI calculations assistant writes Excel-style formulas that then drive question and page visibility, conditional emails, integration payloads and success pages.

What happens when I outgrow Tally without a workflow builder?

You add vendors. Tally has no workflow builder, no approval or routing flows, and no multi-step internal process. The submission-to-PDF export added in 2026 is a themed copy of the submission rather than a template-driven document generator. Anything past submit-and-notify is pushed to Zapier, Make or n8n, which is a second subscription, and a signature tool is usually a third. **Paperform** Pro at $49/month annually includes 25 signed documents a month, unlimited workflow steps and 20,000 automation credits; Business at $124/month includes 100 signed documents and 100,000 credits. The credits are metered and worth checking against your volume, but they replace an automation subscription rather than sitting on top of one.

Which Tally alternative is cheapest if I just need to remove the branding?

Tally itself, at $24/month billed annually on Pro, is hard to beat for that single job, and we would not pretend otherwise. **Fillout** is the closest paid rival at $15/month annually on Starter, though that tier caps you at 2,000 responses a month. **Cognito Forms** Pro is $19/month annually with 2,000 entries and 2 users. **Paperform** has no sub-$30 rung: Pro is $59/month, or $49/month billed annually, which is the higher floor of the group. If white-labelling a handful of forms is the whole requirement, stay on Tally Pro.

Can I run multiple client brands out of Tally?

Partly. Tally Pro adds workspaces, folders with access management, custom domains, custom CSS and custom email domains, which covers the basics of separating clients. The friction shows in the editor: Tally builds pages from stacked blocks inserted with a slash command, so a form looks like a well-made form rather than like a client's site. Agencies that live in this problem tend to want free-text layout, where prose, images, GIFs, video and fields sit where the page needs them. **Paperform** is built that way and adds Agency+, a separate product for managing Paperform across client accounts with consolidated billing. Seats are unlimited on every Paperform plan, so the designer, the marketer and whoever signs off cost nothing to add.

Is Tally a safe long-term bet for a system of record?

Tally is bootstrapped, customer-funded, profitable and, by its own about page, run by about ten people from Ghent in Belgium. That independence is a genuine strength and part of why people like the product. The risk is concentration: ten people carry the roadmap, the support queue and the compliance work, and there is no support tier you can buy your way up to when a rollout goes wrong on a deadline. Tally's G2 customer support sub-rating of 4.5 is its weakest score. **Paperform** has been bootstrapped and profitable since 2016, builds Priority support into the Pro price with no separate enablement fee, and rates 4.7 to 4.9 on support across review platforms.

Does any alternative keep the Notion-style editing feel?

**Paperform** is the closest in spirit and further along in practice. Both let you type a form the way you type a document, but Tally inserts stacked blocks with a slash command while Paperform lets you write free text and drop fields into it, with Unsplash and Giphy built in and custom HTML and CSS available. **Fillout** also has a modern, fast builder with a chat-based AI agent, though its editor is closer to a conventional page builder. **Jotform** and **Cognito Forms** are drag-and-drop and will feel like a step backwards if the editor is what you loved about Tally.

How do I migrate off Tally, and can I take my data with me?

Tally exports submissions as CSV and individual submissions as PDF, and it has a REST API plus SHA256-signed webhooks, so getting the data out is straightforward. Forms themselves do not transfer automatically: Tally imports from Typeform, PDF, image, JSON, CSV and Markdown, but nothing reads a Tally form directly. The practical route is to export the responses, then rebuild in the new tool. **Paperform** gives you 30,000+ professionally designed templates to start from rather than a blank page, plus a 7-day free trial with no card.
